Are you looking forward to next week? I know I am. No school or assignments for a few days. Nothing sounds better than that — except maybe graduation, and a good cookie. I hope you spend your time wisely. Next week is time to recharge for the long haul, because when we come back we only have one month’s worth of school time before finals and graduation.
Where are you going for Spring Break? I’m contemplating a return to my native land in California. Others have parties and road trips planned. Some of you may stay in Ogden. Seeing as how it’s time for the pre-summer fun to begin, I give you the top five Spring Break spots.
5. St. George. Students in Utah told me this is the top Utah Spring Break spot. I asked why. Their response: it’s warm! After living in Utah for two years I can’t argue with that; nevertheless, I can’t actually tell you any other reason to go there.
4. Lake Powell. What’s better than boating for a few days? Skiing and wakeboarding might have to wait, because everyone and their mom is on the lake … in a boat. Nevertheless, it’s time to go down to Lake Powell before it’s blazing hot, and while the coeds still look good in their bathing suits. Let’s not forget how important coeds in bathing suits are to Spring Break. If you do forget, MTV will always be there to remind you.
3. Panama City, Florida. Speaking of MTV, they were all about Panama City, Fla., last year for spring break. So consider this the section for all things Florida. That means Miami and South Beach as well. In my humble opinion, Panama City certainly beats St. George if you want some fun in the sun. Better beaches (OK, OK, they actually have beaches), more parties and definitely more sun (hurricanes excluded), these beaches will always make the list for the sultry nightlife available to college students.
2. Las Vegas. For some reason, searching for Elvis seems to be a trend for college students during Spring Break. Most college students I know couldn’t even play the penny slot machines in a truck stop on the way to Sin City. Maybe it’s the magic shows … or Wayne Newton … um, maybe that dude is dead. All fun and games aside, there’s always something to do in Vegas. You can go to casinos, cheap buffets, Cirque du Soleil, Celine Dion and roller coasters. Yeah, you got me — those are fun and games.
1. Cancun. Here you have the chance for beaches, snorkeling and margaritas. Located on the Mexican Caribbean (everyone wants to go to the Caribbean), Cancun is a perennial top spot whether or not you are going for Spring Break. Did I forget to mention the world-class resorts and nightclubs? Like any of the Spring Break spots with beaches, Cancun will become a Mecca for students who want to party and have a good time.
Please remember to be safe and responsible. I hope to have you back to read my column the week after spring break — the top five celebrity mustaches.
