Montana’s Anthony Johnson steals Big Sky championship and NCAA tourney spot

While the Weber State University Men’s Basketball Team seemed to have the Big Sky Conference Championship in hand, the University of Montana had other plans. After scoring only eight points in the first half, UM senior Anthony Johnson scored 36 points in the second half, including UM’s final 21 points, fueling his team to erase a 20-point halftime lead and defeat the Wildcats 66-65. Homeless community growing

More people living on streets

It is estimated that over 15,000 people will experience homelessness in Utah in 2009, which represents 6 percent of the state’s population. Utah’s population has increased by 8 percent in 2009 from the previous year, according to Pamela Atkinson, activist for the homeless citizens of Utah.

Baseball club sweeps tournament

WSU wins first five games of regular season

The Weber State University Baseball Team traveled to Mesquite, Nev., March 4-6, where they played and won five games. WSU played UC Santa Cruz, UC Santa Barbara, Loyola Marymount University, Eastern Washington University and Arizona State University. These were the first regular season games for the Wildcats.

High school talent showcased on campus

Local high school students craft their art to university standards at WSU gallery

­­­­­The fifth annual Northern Utah High School Art Exhibition will display almost 200 original pieces of artwork March 12-26 at Weber State University’s Mary Elizabeth Dee Shaw Gallery. WSU began hosting the exhibition to give students north of Salt Lake the opportunity to participate in a lar­­­ge regional art show.

Derek Edwards

Derek Edwards is a Weber State University graduate, class of 2004. He earned a degree in engineering, but after working in the field for a while, his life changed directions as he started an innovative new business, Leroy Mobile Lube. The Signpost (SP): What is your past experience with Weber State University, and how did you use your degree? Derek Edwards (DE): My experience at Weber State was really nice, especially for the money, considering the University of Utah and BYU were like five million times more expensive.
