Five trending songs that are blowing up the radio

We all have a favorite song that makes us want to keep hitting the replay button, and new hits from popular artists have been popping up all over the place over last few months. In light of the new semester, I thought it would be nice to revamp my playlist. Here are a few songs you’ll find at the top of the charts:

#1: Taylor Swift – “Shake it Off”

Taylor Swift’s signature style combines country and pop, but this debut song from her album “1989” is far from country. Swift has branched out from her country origins and is now topping the charts with her fresh, new pop sound.

This song, “Shake it Off,”  is upbeat, great for working out or sporadically dancing in your car to on your way to school. It’s cheerful, fun and sure to get you pumped for the day.

#2: Katy Perry – “This is How We Do”

Katy Perry has always pushed the limits when it comes to her music, which might explain her phenomenal success as one of pop’s biggest headliners.

Her newest song, “This is How We Do,” has a catchy beat that is sure to get stuck in your head for hours. Set to Perry’s eye-catching music video, viewers are sure to get hooked on this trending number.

#3: Echosmith – “Cool Kids”

This trendy indie-pop song by Echosmith, an up-and-coming band of siblings, has a more mellow sound but still remains attention-grabbing.

“Cool Kids” is about how wonderful the lives of “the cool kids” seem to everyone else. The song is relatable to young people, making it that much more appealing. We all know, or have known, those people who we felt were cooler, had better clothes and had the “popular” status we all strived for.

#4: Kenny Chesney – “American Kids”

This one is for all the country fans out there. I am sure most of us have heard “American Kids,” it has been playing on the country stations almost non-stop for the last few weeks.

With its catchy beat and great music video, it is sure to draw some attention. If you dislike country, this song may change your mind and convert you to that country sound.

#5: Charli XCX – “Boom Clap”

Featured in the recent movie, “The Fault in Our Stars,” this song has quickly risen in popularity. It has a fast-paced beat that is great to blast in the car during these last warm nights of summer.

I hope these top five songs have inspired you to revamp your playlist as well. A new sound in your playlist can make all the difference when you are getting ready for the day, driving or even doing homework. New music is always helpful when it comes to the beginning of a new semester.
