Winter is just around the corner, and with every winter, there comes ski and snowboard swaps. Not only do these ski swaps help students find winter sports gear for a discounted price, but they also help them get into the winter mindset.
A few weeks ago, Weber State University held its own ski swap that lasted for one day. Snowbasin will hold another ski swap for those who may have missed the gear swap on campus. Although this is a Snowbasin-sponsored event, it will be held in Davis County at the Legacy Events Center, which is located at 151 S. 1100 W., Farmington.
The ski and snowboard swap will last Nov. 1-3, with different admission prices on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The swap is open 6-9 p.m. Friday evening, and admission for the general public is $5. On Saturday, the swap will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and admission is $2. On Sunday, the swap will be free to everyone, and open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Children under the age of 12 get in free all three days.
The Ogden Valley Winter Sports Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the development of young ski racers, will present the swap. The foundation has a strong partnership with the Weber School District and supports the community at large by providing youth volunteers to support various charitable and community events. The organization hosts 100 northern Utah athletes aged 6-18 who train and race locally as well as across the western United States.
Snowbasin and Wolf Mountain representatives will be there to sell their season passes. Attendees can expect to see savings of 70 percent off gear. Coaches from the Ogden Valley Winter Sports Foundation will also be there to answer any questions about gear or its programs.
Attendees of the swap should be aware of a few tips before they go. No checks are accepted, and bulky coats and backpacks are not permitted. Visitors should also remember to bring the right socks for trying on footwear.
The second part of a ski and snowboard swap is held so people can sell their old or unwanted gear for some quick cash. Those interested in this will need to check in prior to or during the first day of this event. The two locations for this are Inkline (2917 E. 3300 S. in Salt Lake City) and Alpine Sports in Ogden. Vendor check-ins will be held today or at the first day of the event from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
A percentage of all sales will benefit the Ogden Valley Winter Sports Foundation, which asks that no gear more than five years old, except for antiques or collectibles, be brought to sell.
