Softball wins 15-inning game

The Weber State University softball team claimed a 15-inning victory in a game spanning two days over the weekend against California State University, Sacramento.

The game started Friday afternoon, and was suspended in the 15th inning due to darkness. When play resumed on Saturday, the Wildcats closed out the game for a 6-4 victory. It was the second 15-inning game in WSU history. The first occurred in 1983.

Kylee Colvin got the start for WSU and pitched 11 innings, throwing 165 pitches in the game. Morgan Allaband earned the win, giving up five hits in four innings of pitching.

In the game, the Wildcats recorded 12 hits, including three doubles. In the fifth inning, WSU trailed 3-1, but leveled the score thanks to hits by Rudi Barrios and Brooke Silva. The game remained tied for nine innings before the Wildcats finally broke through in the 15th. WSU went up 5-3 and scored one more run before play was suspended for the day.

The next morning, CSUS scored one run in the bottom half of the 15th to make it 6-4 before the Wildcats closed out the game for the win.

Now WSU will return home this weekend for its final three home games of the season. WSU will take on in-state rival Southern Utah University in a doubleheader on Friday. The two teams will play a final game on Saturday. Saturday’s game will be Senior Day, with the team’s lone senior, London Clarke, set to be honored before the game.
