The Weber State University women’s tennis team almost got its first win of the early 2013 season on Saturday after dropping a 4-3 decision to Seattle University.

The loss sent the Wildcats home winless on the two-match trip after Boise State University took a 7-0 victory in the team’s first match of the weekend.

Against SU, the Wildcats earned three points in singles play, splitting the six matches. SU earned the deciding win as it took the doubles point to start the day, winning at the No. 2 and 3 spots in the lineup.

WSU’s Thais Kurer and Kristi Elmer took an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles, defeating Gabriella Weissman and Anna Lambert, but the Wildcats could not find the win they needed to tip the point their way in the bottom two spots.

In singles, Elmer and Kurer each won points, staying undefeated for the day. Elmer defeated Lambert in the No. 2 singles match, rallying from a 6-3 first-set loss to win the final two sets 6-4, 6-4. Kurer, meanwhile, had an easier time in the No. 4 spot, taking a 6-3, 6-2 win over Corinne Worder.

Annika Karlsen earned the final point for WSU with a 6-1, 7-5 win over Kristen Jones in the No. 6 singles match.

Against BSU on Friday, the Wildcats were overwhelmed by the Broncos. BSU won all three doubles matches and took all six singles contests in straight sets.
