Intentional fire set at WSU

A fire set in a men’s room at Weber State University on Friday closed the Student Services Building for about an hour.

Allison Hess, director of public relations at WSU, said WSU police got a call and responded to a fire alarm at 3:14 p.m. and arrived on the scene within one minute. The Ogden City Fire Department arrived within six minutes at about 3:20 p.m.

Everyone in the building evacuated the premises safely and no one was injured.

“As of (Friday), Weber police had no idea on motive, a suspect, a cause, or anything along those lines,” Hess said. “They turned it over to Ogden City Fire at that point.”

Hess said the fire department contained the fire in the men’s restroom and that she got the indication the smoke was mostly the problem.

The fire department battalion chief heading the investigation was unavailable over the weekend to comment on its status.
