WSU golf season gets under way

Weber State University golfer Jordan Herzog shot a second-round 69 with a pair of 73s over the weekend, which helped WSU to a 14th-place finish at the Falcon Invitational in Colorado.

The University of Colorado got off to a quick start and easily took the team title, shooting a 12-under-par total of 852, to finish 12 strokes ahead of Coastal Carolina University and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, which tied for second. The Wildcats shot team-total rounds of 304, 307 and 302 for a total of 913.

Jason Burstyn of UNC finished with three strong rounds of 68, 71 and 68 on the Eisenhower Blue course, earning medalist honors with a nine-under-par 207. Tanner Higham of Utah State University shot three straight rounds of 70 to finish second at 210.

Herzog’s one-under-par 215 tied him for 11th place overall in the field. He was the only Wildcat to finish in the top 50.

Matt Wahlen tied for 55th with a 227 and Colton Dallimore tied for 74th at 233. Kyler Dearden used a final-round 75 to move up to 82nd place with a 238.  Michael Johnson finished 88th after being disqualified for signing an incorrect score card in the second round.

The Wildcats will be in action this weekend at the Ram Master Invitational held at Colorado State University. WSU has played in two tournaments this season, finishing sixth in the first tournament of the year earlier this month.
