Nathan Davis, who served as editor-in-chief for most of the summer, decided to step down due to a conflicting schedule.
Jenkins started working at The Signpost in September 2011 and is majoring in journalism at Weber State University. Previous to working on the newspaper, Jenkins was already president of WSU’s chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. She started out as a news reporter at The Signpost, quickly progressing to the position of assistant news editor and then news editor. She won Rookie of the Year for her first year on staff, an award voted on by The Signpost staff to recognize the most valuable new staff member, at the end of the spring 2012 semester.
“I’m excited,” Jenkins said about her new position. “I was nervous I wouldn’t get it, but also nervous I would get it, because it’s a lot of responsibility.”
Jenkins said she joined The Signpost because of the opportunity it offered to give her the best training she could receive in journalism while still in college.
Shane Farver, faculty adviser for The Signpost, said he thinks Jenkins will take The Signpost in a good direction.
“Cozette has an exciting vision for The Signpost,” Farver said. “I believe she realizes that it is not only a newspaper, but a news organization that will fulfill the information needs of Weber State University students in the 21st century.”
