More than 300 spooks haunted the halls of Weber State University's Davis campus Oct. 28 at the Davis Student Council's annual Trunk or Treat event. "It's awesome,"? said Leigh Burk, the the Davis Student Council nontraditional director who organized this year's event. "We've had to run to the store to buy more candy."? The event is popular with nontraditional students and their families. Jennifer Ballard, a senior majoring in English, is earning her degree in between taking time off for having the newest member of her family. This is the second year she's brought her daughters, ages 1 to 11. The vampire, witch, Snow White and Guinevere loved the games and trunk or treating. By far, their favorite activity was the sand candy. "This is my favorite,"? said 9-year-old Shayla holding up her plastic test tube filled with mini pebble candy. "It's made of fruit punch, root beer and bubble gum."? Pirates, pumpkins, Dalmatians and princesses collected candy from about nine trunks of vehicles manned by members of the student council. Jennifer Grandi, Assistant Dean at the WSU-Davis Campus, joined in the fun dressed in her scary costume and handed out candy from her trunk. "We had about eight student council members run the event this year,"? Grandi said. "This is about the fourth year we've held the event and we've added more games this year."? The whole event was free for families. The student council covered the costs, but was very appreciative of families who brought and donated candy for the trunk or treat. "We've got trunk or treating, face painting, ring toss, sand candy, and the movie 'Monster House,'"? said Adrienne Gillespie, Davis Student Council co-advisor. "It keeps getting bigger and better each year."? Inside, kids circled round the cakewalk to the Ghost Busters tune waiting for the music to stop and find out who won the treat. Other children tried to ring the ghosts perched on top of soda bottle at the ring toss. Fidgety faces tried to stay still while students painted on some holiday fun. The final event was the showing of "Monster House" to a standing-room only crowd. "Next year will be even bigger and better," Gillespie said.? Another event to watch for at the Davis campus is a canned food drive, now through Nov. 17. The next family event will be the Breakfast with Santa in December.
