I am writing to express my disgust at the Signpost's willingness to advertise on behalf of The Pregnancy Care center. This center is nothing more than a pro-life harassment scheme designed to lure in women looking for choices. In exchange for their "free" pregnancy test, you must sit through their educational session that is full of misinformation and intimidation. The website listed in the ad does not provide disclosure that the clinic is run by an evangelical church in the area, and employs no physicians. It is run by volunteers who exaggerate the risks involved in birth control, emergency contraception, and abortion. The website also claims that emergency contraception is an abortion, which is not the case. The center collects your personal information, address, and even your family's information and promise support if you keep your baby, that amounts to a few free cans of formula. If you choose to explore your other options, they call you a murderer and attempt to guilt you based upon your own religious beliefs and remind you they have your information. I have heard from others they have outright harassed them at home and work although I have not experienced that. There have been cases where women were counseled at these clinics did not seek medical attention and almost died of ectopic rupture, because they falsely believed that they had been seen by a physician at one of these fake "family planning" clinics. I know that the Signpost is a blatantly biased paper, and am used to the political rhetoric but I am appalled that it would go this far. I will be certain to encourage everyone I meet on campus to boycott the Signpost until as long as it continues to accept advertising dollars from this so called center.
