Sophomore Greg Mann singing and playing his guitar.

Many students have dreams they would like to pursue. Greg Mann, a Weber State University sophomore, he wants to create music.

The Signpost: When did you start singing?

Greg Mann: Um, I started singing seriously in seventh grade with choral music.

SP: When did you start playing the guitar?

GM: I picked up the guitar between my freshman and sophomore years of high school.

SP: What made you want to pursue music?

GM: That's a good question. I believe it was because it became something I felt passionate about.

SP: Are you solo right now, or are you in a band?

GM: Currently, I'm trying to work out the details of getting a band together, but sometimes I play with my good friends Joel Myers on the drums, and Charles Thompson on the cello.

SP: Have you been in a band previously?

GM: Yes. During high school, and a couple years after, my friends and I were in a band called Once which fizzled out when the members of the band started moving away. It lasted roughly five years.

SP: Do you write your own music?

GM: Yes, I do. I usually write about things that I need to hear about. Life experiences come my way,and I try to convert those feelings into music.

SP: When did you have your first gig?

GM: We had our first gig fall of 1998 at a nursing home in North Ogden called Emeritus Estates. We felt excited about the gig because it was our first, and it didn't matter where it was. It was exciting.

SP: How often do you perform?

GM: I usually perform about once a month and, depending on the gig, I play with the drummer or the cellist.

SP: What do you love most about performing?

GM: The thing I love most about performing is being able to share my songs, and hopefully being able to affect people positively.

SP: What do you dislike about performing?

GM: Um, I really hate when I don't do so well as compared to other times.

SP: Do you get nervous to perform in front of people?

GM: Yes, but it is something that has become more comfortable over the years.

SP: How do you get rid of the nerves?

GM: To get over the nerves I just play.

SP: Have you made any albums?

GM: Yes, back in 2001, I recorded an album with Once, entitled "Wait for Tomorrow," and in August of last year I released a solo EP, entitled "Everyday," and I continue to write and record in my home studio.

SP: What do you hope to accomplish with your music?

GM: Well, I hope to inspire good in others.

SP: What are your goals with music?

GM: For now, I just do it as a hobby, and for fun, but if it became anything more than that it would be great. I'm definitely a dreamer.
