It is refreshing to hear a band that isn't so full of itself, and better yet they are from right here in Ogden. Mean Molly's Trio is that band.
Here is a group of guys who have been tearing up Utah's music scene, and as their Web site describes, has a "garage rock style and abrasive blues swank."
Mark Young, Clint Stanger and Timm Gehrett created the band Mean Molly's Trio. Stanger, the drummer, described how the band was formed.
"They had been jamming for a couple of weeks," Stanger said, "and they asked me to come play the keyboards and I don't really know how to play the keyboard that well so I told them I play the drums, and we just clicked."
The band started out playing at Mojos Caffe in Ogden.
"We played there every week for like four months and worked all the bugs out," Stanger said. "Mojos is cool, and there is a lot of creativity and freedom there."
Ron Atencio, the owner of Mojos, said he is a fan of the group.
"I love them," he said. "Mean Molly's Trio started here at Mojos over a year and a half ago, I am proud to say, where they had their very first show and have been one of our and my favorite bands since."
Atencio said the group's unique jazz and blues and rockin' sound have attracted a great local following of all ages.
Mean Molly's Trio has a full-length album under their belts. The album, Things I See, came out in June.
"It took us a while to record that; we did it all ourselves," Stanger said. "We're really proud of it."
The threesome will be playing at the Diamond Lounge on Saturday, July 28 with The Morlocks and The Furs.
"It's kind of a rockabilly blues set up," Stanger said. "The bands go together really well, and we're really excited just playing with the Morlocks because they don't play a lot."
Mean Molly's Trio will also be playing on Friday, August 10 at Mojos Caffe, and Saturday, August 11 at Kamikazes.
